The design concept was inspired and derived from the historical context of China Place. Three historically related elements serves as the design impetus for this project: RED, SQUARE and HERITAGE.

RED – Cultural and symbolical reference for China, good luck, prosperity, China Place logo and “Samsui Women” hat wear.

SQUARE – Concept of Square, China Square Central’s identity, social communal gathering place.

HERITAGE – Architectural and historical heritage reference, juxtapose of the new and the old.

These 3 key elements carry significant historical and cultural reference of the place and underpinning the design concept in both tangible and intangible ways. They are the driving force behind the creating of the various precincts.

The overall retail planning focuses on maximising the value of all the units by providing better circulation, increase visibility and provide subdivision flexibility. Level One retail precinct branding includes Heritage Link, a physical and notional connection between old and new, past and present as well as Palettes of Palate which is a showcase of different palate of gourmet restaurant and hip cafes through an artistic expression of the Palettes.

Heritage in Textures, Hues & Form

The Heritage Enclave located at Basement 1 is evolved through the concept of underground cave like environment to promote cultural Asian oriental food. It also consists of an outlandish Heritage Bazaar along the Heritage trail with vintage lighting featuring a mixture of munchies street street food and variety of shops.

Level Two Zest Square is all things about lifestyle. Derived from the concept of SQUARE as a social gathering space, it is a space that eludes positive energy. Where people come together to generate sense of community, promote well-being, enthusiasm & lifestyle activities through the concept of flowing waves of great energy along the space.
